Red Lion is the sponsor of the British Forces Broadcasting Services ‘Great Escape Rally’. Our aim is to raise money for The Big Salute.
This event has now closed. Thanks to everyone involved for their generous support and a memorable trip!
The concept & purpose of the event
Please note that the Great Escape Rally is not a race and that joining the rally will be the Royal British Legion bikers.
The Great Escape Car Rally has 3 routes for crossing the channel. Work out which one you want to take.
- Tom: Harwich to the Hook of Holland
- Dick: Dover
- Harry: Folkestone / Channel tunnel
Some participants may also join en route and not necessarily start in Royal Wootton Bassett.
Prizes
Although this is not a race, we are adding an element of ‘competition’, which we hope will also help each participant engage with their local community and encourage support and so there will be various prizes, as follows:
- A prize to the driver who generates the most donations.
- A prize for the most interestingly designed car or bike.
- A prize for the best fancy dress.
Further details of the prizes will be posted here soon.

Fundraising
We want to raise as much money as possible for The Big Salute so we want you to be as creative as possible in your fund raising endeavours. Perhaps you could contact your local newspaper/radio station ask them if they’d like to follow your progress, which should help your fundraising. We’re also encouraging entrants to auction of their car/banger at the end of the rally with the proceeds going to those 5 forces charities. Why not raffle your car off or hold a pub quiz or pub night to show some slides and pictures of the rally and have a car auction with collection buckets at the end. Each car will have to arrange all their own transport/accommodation.
Each entrant will be responsible for collecting charitable donations for The Big Salute (BFBS) Charities.
Each entrant is encourgaed to create thier own JustGiving donations page, details of how to do this can be found at www.justgiving.com
