Red Lion Foods Sponsors The Millies – December 2012
Red Lion Foods sponsored the Life Saver Award at The Sun’s Military Awards last week. The award ceremony was attended by a spectacular array of stars that included the Prince of Wales, the Prime Minister, actress and singer Myleene Klass, actress Helen Flanangan, gold medal-winning cyclist Victoria Pendleton, footballer Ian Wright, Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson and many others. The VIPs were brought together to show their appreciation of our wonderful servicemen and women who have been involved in demanding and dangerous operations over the past year, for instance in Afghanistan and Libya.
The three contenders for the Red Lion Foods award were Lance Corporal Emma Holliday from HM Montrose, Hayley Ridgeway from One RIFLES and the Medical Emergency Response Team on Operation Herrick 16. The eventual winner was Hayley Ridgway and she received her award from Dame Helen Mirren.
Despite being wounded herself, Hayley’s unselfish and highly professional actions to deliver medical aid to 6 members of her patrol in Afghanistan after they had been hit by an IED was extraordinary. She attended to the most injured immediately, reviving the young commander who had been knocked unconscious and suffered severe injuries. She prioritised other wounded men onto the extraction helicopter and was eventually extracted herself. Hayley and her boyfriend, Scott Reading, who is also a soldier and who helped Hayley after she was injured, intend to get married soon.
Andrew Gidden, the founder of Red Lion Foods, and his guests from Cranswick PLC were all struck by the extraordinary actions and selflessness demonstrated by the military personnel who had been nominated for the different categories of The Millies.
Red Lion Foods is also delighted to congratulate Nikki Scott, the founder of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, on her award in the category of ‘Support to the Armed Forces’. Nikki Scott received her award from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver for her wonderful work in support of children of servicemen and women who have lost one or both parents in conflict or accident. In conjunction with Sainsburys, Red Lion Foods, is delighted to have sponsored Scotty’s Little Soldiers (www.scottyslittlesoldiers.co.uk) and looks forward to further joint activity with Nikki’s charity.
