Gurkha Welfare Trust
TThe Gurkha Welfare Trust supports over 7,200 ex-Gurkha servicemen and their widows in Nepal with a monthly pension. It also undertakes a wide range of community aid projects in Nepal, including clean water and sanitation, medical aid and improving the educational facilities.
Karen England, Director of Fundraising, The Gurkha Welfare Trust “This gift from Red Lion Foods will be used to directly fund the Pension of ex-Gurkha Rifleman Prembahadur Khatri. Rifleman Khatri joined the British Army in 1943 aged 20 and served bravely for 4 years in India and Burma. After being discharged in 1947, he returned to his remote hill village of Ajgaruwa in west Nepal where he married and raised his five children. Now aged 91, widowed and housebound after a fall last year, Rifleman Khatri lives with his daughter and her family. The monthly pension he receives from the Trust, that is sponsored by Red Lion Foods, is his only source of income. This vital financial lifeline ensure Rifleman Khatri has some financial security in his twilight years. On behalf of everyone at the Trust, we would like to thank Red Lion Foods for its support.”
